The Jakpa Palace has issued a strong response to a recent press release from an unidentified group of young men who oppose the commissioning of the renovated Jakpa Palace.
The palace firmly stated that this group lacks legal and traditional standing, and has no recognized authority within the Gonja community.
In a detailed statement, the palace clarified that the group in question is neither registered nor acknowledged in any formal capacity—economic, social, or traditional.
The palace emphasized its role as a unifying symbol in Gonja Land and expressed disappointment that some youth are attempting to undermine this revered institution.
“It is sad to say that in the 21st century, where the youth are supposed to be engaged in viable ventures that drive development and economic growth closer to their communities, a section of the youth in the Gonja Land, with the slightest opportunity, wants to drag the most revered traditional symbol of authority in Gonja Land, the great Jakpa Palace, through the mud,” the statement read.
The palace called on the youth to redirect their energies towards constructive activities that support community development.
The statement also urged the youth to desist from divisive actions and social media activities that tarnish the palace’s image and by extension, that of the entire Gonja Land.
Highlighting the importance of unity and progress, the palace reiterated its commitment to engaging with all community members, regardless of their religious, political, or cultural backgrounds. “There is a common proverb that says one finger cannot pick a grain. The palace is not oblivious of this and will continue to engage all and sundry to accelerate the development of Gonja Land,” the statement added.
Addressing rumors regarding the Yagbonwura’s residence, the palace noted that no official records explain why he resides in a private home. The statement advised the youth to refrain from spreading baseless speculations and to respect the wisdom of their elders.
In conclusion, the Jakpa Palace issued a stern warning to individuals and groups against exploiting the palace’s name for personal or political gain.
The palace declared that this would be the last warning against such acts of disrespect.
