The Minister of Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged government Public Relations Officers (PROs) to consistently evaluate their performance and ensure that their PR strategies align with established templates.
Speaking at the mid-year review for PROs from the Information Services Department in Accra, the Minister emphasized the importance of using empirical methods, such as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to assess performance, noting that measurable goals tend to be achieved.
The review aimed to assess PR plans, verify alignment with various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, and encourage PR Units that are not meeting expectations to enhance their compliance.
To enhance the efficiency of the Information Services Department, the Minister urged PROs to actively support the transformation agenda led by management in collaboration with the Ministry.
Mr. Nkrumah highlighted achievements from the transformation program, including a redesigned organogram, modernization of the newsroom, and strategic changes in the Public Relations Coordination Division and Research Division of the Department.
He stressed that effective delivery of the Department’s mandate requires a collective effort from all staff members.
Acting Chief Information Officer, Mr. David Owusu-Amoah, emphasized that the mid-year assessment program determines goal achievement and the potential for setting new goals.
He explained that this assessment helps PROs track their progress, keeps supervisors engaged in their work, provides valuable feedback, and offers insight into staff understanding of their roles and challenges.
