The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has announced that it will collect data from 1,542 establishments across the Savannah Region as part of the second phase of the Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES II).
This was disclosed by the Savannah Regional Statistician, Alhaji Abdulai Andani Iddrisu, during an interview with our reporter following a training session for field officers involved in the exercise.
According to Alhaji Iddrisu, IBES II is targeting selected businesses across the agriculture, industry, and services sectors, drawn from the database developed in the initial phase of the survey (IBES I). The aim is to update and improve the national business register and to collect crucial data that will support informed decision-making and national development planning.

“We are currently selecting establishments in all the three sectors—agriculture, industry, and services. In the Savannah Region alone, we will be collecting data from 1,542 establishments,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of the survey in generating accurate data for calculating the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), tracking progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and compiling the Producer Price Index (PPI). “If we are able to collect accurate data from these establishments, we will be in a better position to drive our development agenda effectively,” he added.

The data collection exercise is scheduled to begin on July 10 and will run through to September 30, 2025.
As part of preparations for the fieldwork, the GSS began training field officers on June 5. The nationwide training exercise lasted 21 days and ends on July 5. In the Savannah Region, over 70 individuals were trained, from which 49 enumerators and 7 supervisors will be deployed for the exercise. Additionally, two zonal coordinators will oversee and monitor the fieldwork to ensure quality data collection.

IBES II is a national-level survey aimed at providing detailed information on the structure and dynamics of business establishments across Ghana. The insights gained are expected to support policy formulation, improve economic statistics, and aid in national planning processes.
Alhaji Iddrisu encouraged all selected establishments in the region to cooperate fully with enumerators to ensure the success of the exercise.
