The Deputy Director General of Ghana Health Services, Dr. Anthony Adorfu Ofosu on Monday, 24th July, 2023 paid a working visit to the Savannah Region to assess the performance of the regional health directorate, evaluate the functionality and acquaint himself with issues affecting health service delivery with focus on the challenges of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

His visit was also to afford him the opportunity to engage with health workers in the region to understand their difficulties in providing healthcare services in the region.

During his visit, Dr. Anthony emphasized the importance of collaboration and teamwork in ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services in the newly created region.

Concerning the NHIS, Dr. Anthony expressed significant concern about its functionality, as it is a major source of funding for the Ghana Health Service. He stressed the need for proper management of the scheme to ensure it effectively supports healthcare facilities.

Addressing the challenges faced by the newly created region, Dr. Anthony emphasized the importance of working together as a team to overcome obstacles and achieve their common goal and therefore urged all health workers and leaders in the region to put aside personal issues and focus on identifying with a common purpose.

Dr. Anthony also highlighted the role of leadership in developing a new region and encouraged leaders to set a good example by laying strong foundations, promoting a positive culture and exhibiting the behavior they wish to see in their organization.

Additionally, he addressed the issue of some health workers treating clients disrespectfully, which leads to a loss of clients for the health facilities.

Dr. Anthony explained that, Client satisfaction is a priority and called on health workers to exhibit a positive attitude, communicate effectively, and ensure a smooth experience for clients during their visits.

As part of the visit, the Deputy Director General and the Savannah Regional Health director, Dr. Chrysantus Kubio inspected various healthcare facilities, including warehouses, hospitals, and clinics to understand their challenges and identify areas for development.

The visit of the deputy director General is aimed to foster cooperation among healthcare professionals and improve the quality of healthcare services in the newly created Savannah Region of Ghana.
