On Monday, 12th August, 2024, leadership of the Muslim Community in Damongo converged at the Damongo town park to undertake a special prayer for rains to end the dry spell in Northern Ghana. The special prayer, known as SALAT AL-ISTISQA, is an Islamic Prayer asking Allah for rains and blessings, Allah’s forgiveness, and cautioning the chiefs, queen mothers and people of the area to desist from wrong doings. The SALAT AL-ISTISQA is performed or offered to seek divine intervention during dry spells or drought.
Sheik Abubakari Gozabri, who led the prayers at the town park appealed to all to remain disciplined and be good servants of Allah. He noted that when the people serve Allah with humility and desist from doing wrong acts, the suffering of the masses will be minimized.
Sheikh Abubakari Gozabri added “we must all do our best to forgive one another. This is the surest way our prayers will be answered by Allah. Let’s remain a community of clean and pure hearts and seek forgiveness from one another since many of us have negative thoughts against one another “.
PAD FM 95.1m, a Damongo community radio station interacted with some congregants after the prayers and they said for over a month now, the Savannah and some other regions in Ghana are experiencing dry spells, leading to farm plants being destroyed through lack of rains.
A lot more people in the area are farmers and the dry spell is affecting their farm plants and potential yields.
Animals find it difficult to graze due to the lack of rainfall.
The climate destruction and related activities have been a major challenge in the Savannah region of Ghana. Illegal charcoal production, rosewood, economic tress, and other viable species have all been affected by the activities of those involved in the act.
