The member of parliament for the Damongo constituency and Minister for lands and Natural resources, Hon. Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor has awarded some best performing teachers in the Damongo constituency.
This was done in the maiden edition of the MP’s teachers awards scheme at a ceremony held on Friday, 7th October, 2022 at Damongo.
In all, fourteen best performing teaching staff and one Non – teaching staff from the Ghana education comprising of three each from the Kindergarten, primary, junior high and the senior high school levels respectively.
In an address before the awards, the MP, Hon. Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor said he appreciates and recognizes the work teachers across the municipality do to improve on the standards of education in the area henced, the need for them to be honored.
He explained that, the center of education lies solely on the teacher and they must be compensated for their good works.
He said in doing so, they teachers will be happy enough to give out their best to influence and facilitate the proper development the pupils.
The MP expressed his commitment and determination to make his contributions of any form possible as member of parliament for the area to enhance on the delivery of quality education in the Damongo Constituency.
He noted that, he recognizes that there are some resource constraints all over the municipality as far as education is concerned but was optimistic that, he will do his best to help address them as it is his duty and obligation to provide some basic needs of his constituents particularly in the areas of education.
He also noted that, a lot is being done in the education sector to improve on education in the area which includes the building of a STEM school at Busunu, a 2 unit dormitory block for the Larabanga Islamic Secondary school, a 12 unit classroom block and fenced wall at Ndesco , a 2 unit dormitory block at the Damongo nurses college, a 6 unit classroom block at Agric settlement, 3 unit classroom block for Yagbum JHS and same for Kurabaso JHS block A.
To enhance monitoring and supervision to improve in the delivery of quality education in the region, the honorable member of parliament pledged to donate Ten (10) motorbikes and a brand new pick- up to the regional education directorate and another for Ndewura Jakpa Senior high school in fulfilment of a promise made by the president during his visit to the region.
He has also planted a seed capital of Ghc100,000 for the start of a welfare fund to carter for the welfare of teachers in the West Gonja Municipality.
The maiden teachers awards scheme was fully funded by the member of parliament where two, one best male and one best female teachers received motorbikes and the rest of the awardees going home with Mattresses, Televisions, Laptops among others.
