The Paramount Chief of the Busunu Traditional Area, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II, has appealed to the government to prioritise key development projects to accelerate growth in Busunu and its surrounding communities. His appeal focused on education, healthcare, youth employment, and security infrastructure.

The call was made on Saturday, December 27, 2025, during a grand durbar marking the climax of the Busunu Homecoming Ceremony, which drew indigenes, residents, and friends of Busunu from across the country. The event, held under the theme “Thriving Together: One Community, One Shared Responsibility,” highlighted unity among the area’s diverse ethnic groups and renewed a long-standing vision of communal cohesion.

Addressing the gathering, the Paramount Chief reiterated the need for a STEM Girls Senior High School in Busunu, recalling that an E-Block SHS approved in 2016 could not be executed following a change of government. He disclosed that a 25-acre parcel of land has already been secured and welcomed recent assessments by consultants for a proposed model STEM Girls Senior High School. He proposed that the school be named Maame Nneba Girls Senior High School in honour of a distinguished daughter of the land.

He also renewed his appeal for the upgrading of the Busunu Health Centre into a polyclinic with a maternity ward and theatre, and called for the establishment of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution at Murugu to equip the youth with employable skills and curb rural–urban migration. In addition, he urged government to revive plans for a Police Training School along the Tamale road and to ensure the inclusion of qualified youth from the area in ongoing recruitment into the security services and other state institutions.

The Chief highlighted community-led development efforts, notably the construction of a multi-purpose community centre funded through charcoal royalties. He noted that the ground floor is completed and in use, with plans underway to mobilise funds to complete the upper floor.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Beawurbi, assured the people of Busunu that several of the requested projects would commence early next year, including the construction of the senior high school. He emphasized the government’s strong focus on youth employment and announced a donation of GH¢50,000 from the President towards the completion of the Busunu Community Centre.

The event also attracted support from dignitaries including Members of Parliament from the Savannah Region, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, and various organizations and individuals who made additional donations toward the community centre project.

The Paramount Chief expressed gratitude to all contributors and participants and concluded with prayers for sustained peace, unity, and development in Busunu.
