Residents, chiefs and people of Busunu and surrounding communities have expressed excitement and renewed hope following an engagement with officials of the Damongo–Tamale Water Project on the ongoing Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) studies for the project.
The engagement, held at the Busunu Community Centre on Saturday, September 12, 2026, brought together traditional authorities, residents, landowners, farmers, property owners, women’s groups, youth groups and other stakeholders within the project-affected areas. Officials used the occasion to explain the RAP process, provide important information about the project and give community members the opportunity to raise concerns, share views and provide relevant information for the identification of potential Project Affected Persons.
The meeting formed part of the ongoing stakeholder engagement activities being undertaken ahead of the implementation of the Damongo–Tamale Water Project. The discussions were characterised by enthusiasm and optimism, as community members welcomed the prospect of improved and reliable water supply to Busunu and neighbouring communities, describing the project as a major development that could transform lives and improve living conditions.
In a joyous mood, the chiefs and people of Busunu commended the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, and President John Dramani Mahama for their efforts towards bringing the long-awaited water project to their communities. They expressed appreciation for the engagement process and pledged their support and cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Chiefs and community members raise concerns about compensation with regards to farming, economic trees, employment, water extensions to households, billing procedures, land ownership, small business holders, among others.
All concerns were explicitly addressed to the satisfaction of the community members.
The Damongo-Tamale Water Project team will continue the engagements in Damongo, Larabanga and a visit to Mole National Park.
