The member of Parliament for Ayawaso West wuogon in the Greater Accra Region, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan has on Tuesday, 18th April, 2023 donated some 200 dual desk furniture to the Central Gonja District Assembly and Education Directorate in the Savannah Region for onward distribution to some selected schools in Mpaha and Kpabuso.
The donation was done at a short ceremony held at Mpaha on behalf of the MP by Alhaji Nasiru-Deen, NPP Nasara Coordinator for Ayawaso West Waugon and Aid to Hon. Lydia who explained that the donation is in fulfilment of a promise made by Hon. Lydia to the Headmaster of Mpaha D/A primary in her latest visit to Mpaha for the final funeral rites of her Aunty.
He further indicated that, it is the hope of Hon. Lydia that the furniture will be put to good use to harness the full potential of children in the two communities in order to bridge the furniture gap that exists in rural schools.
Mr. Sulemana Sisco, on behalf of the DCE for Central Gonja thanked Hon. Lydia for the gesture to the District and explained that the Assembly has always made provisions for the supply of furniture to schools in the District in it’s composite budget but owing to the growing enrollment in all classes and springing up of New Schools, the supplies are largely not sufficient for the all schools.
On her part, the District Director of Education, Madam Veronica Tampur on behalf of management, staff, and pupil of the beneficiary Schools and the education Directorate further thanked Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan for the donation and opined that Hon. Lydia is a role model for many pupils, especially female students in the Central Gonja District to enable them aim higher in their academic pursuits.
She also called for more support from well-meaning citizens of Central Gonja to come to the aid of the many Schools in the District in need of furniture to supplement Government and the Assembly efforts of meeting the furniture demand of the Students.
The paramount Chief of Debre Traditional Area also commended Hon. Lydia for coming to the aid of students in the area and prayed for a long life and prosperity for the daughter of the land.
Other dignitaries present at the short ceremony were the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Issahaku Musah, Ibrahim Adamu PRO of Central Gonja GES, and Iddrisu Lamin, Assistant Director in charge of supervision at the GES in Central Gonja, Chiefs, Teachers, and parents of the beneficiary Schools.
