MP for Damongo doubling as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and caretaker Minister for trade and industry, Samuel Abu Jinapor has made donation of some food items to the caretaker King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Sonyowura Kanyiti I.
The donation was done on Tuesday, 7th February, 2023 at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo and comprises of twenty bags of rice, two bags of maize, a bag of Cassava, one gallon of cooking oil, a pack of snap drink, fifty sachets of pure water and a cash amount of Six thousand Ghana cedis ( Ghc 6,000 ).
Donating the food items on behalf of the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, the Savannah regional chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana ( Prof. Kalamonia) explained that the gesture by the Damongo lawmaker was to support the acting king of the Gonja kingdom to cater and feed for visitors and sympathisers at the Jakpa Palace ahead preparations towards the funeral rites of the late Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore – Essa I.
He appealed to the Palace to duly communicate to them as and when dates are set for the funeral rites of the late King.
Receiving the items on behalf of the acting Yagbonwura, the chief linguist at the Jakpa Palace, Alhaji Adam Afuli expressed gratitude to the delegation and thanked the Damongo MP for the kind gesture asking that God continues to bless him in all his endeavours.
Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana was accompanied by Regional executives of the NPP, the MCE for West Gonja, Council of elders Secretary, Alhaji Sulemana Achanso and some Damongo constituency executives of the NPP.
According to the Gonja custom and Tradition, the Sonyowura becomes the Acting king and overlord on the demise of a Yagbonwura and he supersedes the affairs of the Gonja Kingdom until a new Yagbonwura is selected.
