The Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Abu Jinapor, has made a donation to support this year’s Damba Festival celebrations.
The Damongo lawmaker donated the food items and a cash sum of GH₵ 50,000 to the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale on Friday, 20th September, 2024.
The donation was presented on Jinapor’s behalf by the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Musah Karimu Kusubari in the accompany of the Damongo Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kadiri Abdul Rahman.
The items included 50 bags of rice, 2 gallons of cooking oil, 20 cartons of bottled water, a fat bull and the cash amount.
The Yagbonwura’s Damba, also known as “Yagbon Damba,” is a significant cultural event in the Gonja Kingdom. The festival is set to commence on Saturday, 21st September, with the arrival of visitors and picking office. The following day, 22nd September, will feature traditional activities such as the slaughtering of the bull and the overnight Damba dance, culminating in a grand durbar on Monday, 23rd September.
The donation highlights Hon. Abu Jinapor’s ongoing support for the Gonja Kingdom and its cultural heritage, ensuring a successful and vibrant celebration of this year’s Damba Festival.
