The Member of Parliament for the Damongo constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Abu Jinapor has on Friday, 4th January, 2022 commissioned a newly build community market for the people of canteen, a suburb Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region.
In an address at a ceremony organized to commission and to hand over the newly built market to the chiefs and people of Canteen, the Member of Parliament explained that the construction of the market facility for the people of Canteen is in fulfilment of a request by the women of the area prior to the 2020 general elections.
The Member of Parliament added that, the construction of the new market was fully funded by his office to help boost economic activities especially trading among the people in the area and urged all stakeholders within the Canteen area to support in the growth of the market to enable it serve it’s intended purpose as it has always been in the dreams of the people of Canteen to have a community market since 1965.
He assured the people of Canteen that he will continue to bring development to the people of the area and asked for their continuous support and prayers for him to be able to do more for them.
Jinapor Samuel disclosed that the construction of an ultra modern community library, an astro turf and road projects will soon commence for the people of Canteen in the coming months and also used the occasion to announce the construction of a 300 seater modern community centre with an ICT centre for the people of Damongo and also the construction of an astro turf at the Damongo town park.
The law maker also disclosed that, government through the finance minister, has sealed and signed all necessary documents with the UK Exim Bank for work to commence on the Damongo water project.
The Assemblyman for the Canteen Electoral Area, Ananpansah B. Abraham on behalf of the people of the area expressed gratitude to the MP for the market facility and explained that, it was one of the major issues facing the area.
He called on the Member of Parliament to include the women of the Canteen area in the second phase of his women empowerment program, which will have the phase two roll out this February to enable the women have access to some financial support to enhance their day to day economic activities at the market.
Mr Rockson Bukari Diwura, an elder in the Canteen area on behalf of the chiefs of the area explained that the site for the market was acquired in 1965 for the construction of a market which never saw the light of day with several MPs and governments failing on their promises to give them a market until the coming of Hon. Abu Jinapor as member of parliament for Damongo.
Mr. Diwura added that, they are indeed grateful to the Member of Parliament for the gesture and for his relentless efforts to develop the area and called for God’s continuous blessings on the MP.
Present at the ceremony were the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon Saeed Muhazu Jibril, Municipal Chief Executive for West Gonja, Hon. Musah Karim Kusubari, members of RESEC, Regional and Municipal Coordinating Directors, the various ethnic groups in the area and some constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
