Damongo based Mole Nationals fc won the maiden SHARAF MAHAMA FOUNDATION SOCCER TOURNAMENT held in Damongo on Friday 28th June, 2024.
Mole Nationals beat Blue City fc 3-0 to emerge champions. The victors took home six thousand Ghana cedis (GHC6,000), medals, giant trophy, footballs, and jerseys as prizes.
Soale Hakim Essien opened the scoring in the first half and Hadi Zola scored twice afterwards to win the match against Blue City fc.
Sharaf Mahama is an accredited FIFA agent and a son of John Mahama ( Flag bearer of NDC). He is the leader of Sharaf Mahama Foundation.
Canteen fc beat Laribanga PRO Stars by a lone goal to win bronze.
Second placed Blue City fc took home four thousand Ghana cedis (GHC4,000), medals, footballs and jerseys.
Canteen fc placed third and received three thousand Ghana cedis (GHC3,000), footballs and jerseys whilst Laribanga PRO Stars occupied the 4th position and went home with two thousand Ghana cedis (GH 2,000), footballs and jerseys.
There were some individual awards after the matches.
The Best player of the tournament – Saka Benjamin of Mole Nationals fc
Best Goalkeeper of the tournament – Moses Abro of Blue City fc
Top Scorer – Yussif Hanan of Mole Nationals fc
Sharaf Mahama, Shafik Mahama, Kofi Atta Mills, Siedu Abu Sakara were all at the venue to grace the tournament.
The Special Guest of Honour, Hon Adam Mutawakilu Garlus, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Damongo Constituency.
Speaker after speaker expressed gratitude to the foundation and congratulated the teams and urged players to remain disciplined in order to realize their potential in football.
They also appealed to the Sharaf Mahama Foundation to devote more time to the Savannah region to identify and promote talents in the area.
The Sharaf Mahama Healthy Heart Foundation also embarked on Health Screening alongside the tournament.
The health team managed to screen One Thousand (1,000) clients at Damongo Volleyball Court and free drugs/medicines were given out to the clients.
In attendance to grace the tournament were chiefs and Queen Mothers, leadership of NDC and NPP, Youth groups, security agencies, ex-footballers and administrators, among others.
