The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Savannah Regional Secretariat engaged Dress makers and Hair Dressers Association, Damongo at the Mahama Guests house on 3rd March, 2024 during their passing out ceremony for apprenticeship.
Chief Abdulai Ahmed and chairman for the occasion, welcomed NCCE staff for commencement of the public education on Violent Extremism and Terrorism.
Mr. Issaka Zitor, NCCE Regional Director and Mohammed Lukumanu Hafiz (PCEO) took participants through the menace, early warning signals of radicalization and the role citizens should play in preventing and containing violent extremism.
Participants were admonished to share information on suspicious characters with the security agencies through these toll free numbers 999, 18555, 191 and 192.
Also, participants were admonished to try and note the dress code of the persons, the venue and what they’re seen doing at the time to the security personnel to halt any possible attack.
Again, participants were educated to note that security is a collective responsibility. And due to the short supply of the security personnel in Ghana, community members should support the security agencies with relevant information to protect lives and property in the country.
Tolodompewura (Chief) Abdulai Ahmed, and senior registrar for the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), also, urged the participants to put into practice the education received to sustain the existing peace in the Savannah region in particular and Ghana at large. Again, he admonished participants to be vigilant and report on suspicious characters to halt any violent extremism in Ghana.
