The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has taken a significant step towards the 2024 Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES) by successfully training over 200 field officers.

This group includes 185 enumerators, 2 data monitors IT officers and 7 District Statistical Officers designated as zonal coordinators.

The training, conducted by 10 facilitators under the guidance of a master lead, began on January 8th and concluded on January 12th, 2024. The master lead played a pivotal role as the reference point for addressing any challenges encountered during the training sessions.

The fieldwork for this year’s IBES is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 15th and conclude on February 14th, 2024.

To accommodate unforeseen delays, enumerators have been granted a two-week cushioning period beyond the one-month stipulated timeline.

In an exclusive interview, Alhaji Andani Iddrisu Abdulai, the Savannah Regional Statistician, shed light on the purpose of the 2024 IBES.

He emphasized that the survey aims to conduct a comprehensive census of businesses across all sixteen regions of Ghana.

Alhaji Iddrisu Andani Abdulai further revealed that the areas earmarked for this year’s IBES have been strategically zoned into three enumeration zones.

This segmentation according to him, will facilitate a systematic approach to canvassing and counting the diverse range of businesses operating within specific regions.

When questioned about the scope of businesses targeted in the IBES exercise, the regional statistician clarified that unlike the 2013 survey, which focused on permanent establishments, this year’s IBES will cover every business entity in the country from hawkers, open markets to stalls and permanent market locations.

The survey he explained aims to include every category of business, ensuring a comprehensive overview of economic activities in the country.
