The Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo and minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has on Sunday 18th April, 2021, inspected the extent of damage caused by rainstorm at Damongo that got over 700 people displaced after about 90 building roofs got ripped off.

The worst affected areas are Yagbon Residential Area (YRA), Alhassan-kura, Ngbaripe and Hangaline .

Samuel Jinapor Jinapor visited homes, shops and also met with affected persons at Falahiat primary school and Almanara primary at YRA and Ngbaripe respectively.

Samuel Jinapor assured the people of his personal support to roof their houses whilst NADMO and central government take steps to support them in the near future.

“Since I started with you people I made it clear that your cry is my cry and your happiness, my happiness. After hearing the sad news about the heavy rainstorm, I quickly ran home to have a feel of what the people are going through and to see for myself, sympathize with you and offer my little support. I have seen for myself the level of destruction and I wish to state that by Monday, 19th April, the NPP party executives will bring to you my support to roof your homes and shops while you wait for what government, through NADMO will also do for you.”

The rainstorm saw over 90 buildings roofs ripped off at Damongo, the Savannah regional capital.

Officials for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the West Gonja municipality after taking inventory on the disaster said the rainstorm affected about 750 people.

The West Gonja Municipal assembly director for NADMO, Mr. Bavug Adam Ganja, addressing the media said the 95 buildings affected included homes, shops and some school infrastructures.

He added that NADMO has recorded 750 people who were directly affected, 110 of them were male adults, 250 children and the remaining are women adults and three people sustained minor injuries.

Victims

Mr. Bavug Adam revealed that his outfit, NADMO is yet to take delivery of any relief items from central government to support the victims.
“We have to compile the report and send them to the regional office for onward submission to the national level for them to assess our report and decide what package or support the people will need and send to us. So we have done that and waiting, but I can’t tell exactly when we will receive the support but I’m sure it will come in due time.”

The MP and NADMO officials were accompanied by the NPP constituency chairman, Secretary, Communications director, Youth Organizer and other notable executives.
