The Savannah Regional Minister, Mr Saeed Muhazu Jibril has disclosed that they have secured a Ghc19 million funding from government through the Ministry of water and Sanitation and the Ghana water company to commence a small water system for the people of Damongo.
Mr. Muhazu made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with our reporter, Kumatey Gorden at the Yagbonwura’s palace on Tuesday, 16th May, 2023 after he had led the Northern Development Authority CEO, Lawyer Sulley Sambian and his entourage to pay a courtesy call on the king where the King made an appeal to them to help solve the perennial water problem in Damongo.
In assuring the Yagbonwura of their commitment to solve the situation, Mr. Muhazu said work will soon commence on a small Water system project that will provide portable water for the people of Damongo.
The Savannah Regional Minister also indicated that the initial plan of the government of Ghana to contract a loan to bring water to Damongo is taking a bit of time hence the new development.
He said the big project that was initially design to provide water to villages along the Tamale road through to Damongo and it’s nearby communities is on hold now for this current water system which will supply water to only the Damongo township.
According to him, all documentations are fully done to commence work in the coming weeks to ensure the provision of portable water for the people of Damongo.
The project is expected to be completed within a period of six months.
