The Gonjaland Youth Association led by it’s President, Lawyer Mohammed Amin Osman Esq. has secured an injunction from the Tamale high Court on Nanjiro – wura’s elevation to the status of a paramountcy under the Northern regional house of chiefs.
At a media briefing at the Jakpa palace on Sunday, 18th September, 2022 after a close door meeting with the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and President of the Savannah Region House of Chiefs Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa (I), the Public Relations officer for the Association, Mr. Habibu Mufti on behalf of the Association explained that, the attention of the leadership of the Gonjaland Youth Association ( GLYA ) was recently drawn to the fact that, plans were underway to elevate the Nanjiro – Wura, a self acclaimed chief in the Kpandai area to the status of Paramountcy under the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, as stated in a letter written by the National House of Chiefs to the Northern Regional House of Chiefs.
He said, the leadership of the Association took immediate steps to deal with the situation on the basis that the Nanjiro-wura is within the Alfai Area (Kpandai land) which is within the unfettered jurisdiction of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs and the Gonja Traditional Council.
Mr. Mufti explained that, as part of the continuous efforts of the Association to unite and keep together all the parts of the Gonja Traditional Council, the President of the GLYA took the matter to the Tamale High Court, for the appropriate redress of which an interim injunction was secured from the High Court to restrain the Nanjiro-wura from carrying out a ceremony to outdoor himself as a Paramount Chief.
He further said, the case was between the “Gonja Traditional Council Vrs. the Nanjiro-wura & The Registrar of the National House of Chiefs” with the President of the Association providing legal services to the Gonja Traditional Council in the case.
The leadership of GLYA succeeded in getting the National House Chiefs, under the hand of the Registrar, to withdraw its earlier letter which had elevated the Nanjiro-wura to the status of Paramountcy under the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, as the letter was written in error, meaning the elevation of the Nanjiro-wura to the status of Paramountcy under the Northern Regional House of Chiefs is currently a nullity and of no consequence to the Gonja kingdom.
The PRO also disclosed that, the leadership of the Association is working towards resolving all the matters in respect of the elevation of the Nanjiro-wura to the status of Paramountcy under the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs as may be appropriate and hopes that, the Associations efforts would promote peace and harmony amongst the Gonjas, Nchumurus and other people living in Kpandailand in particular and Gonjaland in general.
Mr. Mufti added that, the Kpandai area is traditionally under the Savannah Region House of Chiefs hence all chieftaincy related matters are expected to be handled by the Savannah Region House of Chiefs adding that, Gonjas and Nchumurus are brothers and for that matter if they are returning to Gonjaland, they are coming as brothers.
The leadership of the Association therefore called on the Yagbonwura and all the Chiefs under the Gonja Traditional Council and Savannah Regional House of Chiefs to work collectively towards a lasting peaceful co-existence among Gonjas and Nchumurus.
He promised that, the leadership of the Association will endeavour to keep the kingdom updated on any new development in respect of the status of Nanjiro-wura under the Gonja Traditional Council and Savannah Regional House of Chiefs
