The Methodist Church of Ghana has drilled and handed over six mechanized boreholes to some communities in the West Gonja Municipal, North Gonja and Sawla -Tuna – kalba districts of the savannah Region.
At a short handing over ceremony held on Friday 3rd December, 2021, at Alhassankura in the West Gonja municipality, the Methodist Bishop of Tamale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Bekah explained that, the intervention came as part of the church’s community water supply system project under the Methodist development and relief services funded by UMCOR in the United States of America, of which the six communities have benefited in the region to help reduce the perennial water crisis they experience in the area.
Rt. Rev. Lawrence urged the beneficiary communities to take good care of the facilities and added that he is of the believe that the water will promote togetherness. He said the people are one people, from one source, which is the lord God.
He disclosed that the Methodist church has been doing a lot as part of it’s social responsibilities and has extended such to the Savannah region by commissioning the six mechanized boreholes, one (1) at Guniyiri in the sawla-Tuna-Kalba, three (3) in the North Gonja District at Singa, Disa and lingbinsi and two (2) in West Gonja municipality at Janfaru and Alhassankura.
Rev. Lawrence thanked the people for supporting and accepting the Methodist Church in those areas and promised the church will do more in the years coming.
Rev. Dr. John kweku Buabeng Odoom who is the Superintendent minister for the Damongo circuit of the Methodist Church urged residents of Alhassankura to take up sanitation issues seriously especially around the water facility to help promote good healthy living.
Rev. Dr. John kweku however lamented on how suspected criminals muddle around his residents in attempts to carry out their operations and called on community members to help address the situation.
The Assemblyman for Alhassankura, Hon. Rashid Sumaila (Ataliya) commended the church for coming to the aid of the people with such an intervention and said this will go a long way to reduce the water crisis in the area.
He assured the church of his support and that of community members in the maintenance of the facility and any other challenges the may encounter in the area.
