The Savannah Regional Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its unwavering support for the Member of Parliament for Damongo and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, following his intervention in Parliament over allegations of the sale of Ghanaian diplomatic passports.
In a press statement signed by the Savannah Regional Secretary, Seidu Ayuba, the party commended Hon. Abu Jinapor for what it described as his courage, patriotism and commitment to parliamentary oversight and accountability.

The statement said his demand for answers regarding the alleged sale of Ghanaian diplomatic passports was a legitimate exercise of his constitutional responsibilities and deserved support rather than condemnation.
The Savannah Regional NPP expressed concern over allegations that Ghanaian diplomatic passports were being sold for amounts ranging from US$10,000 to US$50,000, describing the claims as extremely serious and requiring urgent attention.
According to the party, if proven, such practices could undermine the integrity of Ghana’s diplomatic institutions, compromise national security and damage the country’s international reputation.
“Ghana’s diplomatic passports are instruments of national sovereignty, not commodities for private gain,” the statement stressed.
The party also acknowledged the authority of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, but maintained that respect for parliamentary leadership must not undermine the constitutional responsibility of Members of Parliament to scrutinise the Executive and protect the national interest.
It further argued that parliamentary oversight should not be interpreted as an act of defiance or disrespect, insisting that demanding accountability is a constitutional obligation.
The Savannah Regional NPP also commended the Minority Caucus for its unity and solidarity with Mr. Abu Jinapor, saying its collective position demonstrated the importance of defending parliamentary independence and democratic accountability.
The party has consequently called for a thorough, transparent and independent investigation into the allegations, urging the Minister for Foreign Affairs and relevant state institutions to provide credible explanations to restore public confidence and protect Ghana’s diplomatic integrity.
It further encouraged Mr. Abu Jinapor to remain resolute and steadfast in the discharge of his parliamentary responsibilities, describing his actions as a reflection of his commitment to public service and the national interest.
Reaffirming its position, the regional party stated that Ghana’s sovereignty, democratic institutions and international reputation must take precedence over partisan interests.
The statement concluded with a strong declaration of solidarity with Hon. Abu Jinapor and the Minority Caucus in their call for parliamentary oversight, institutional integrity and accountability.
“ACCOUNTABILITY IS NOT DISRESPECT. IT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY. ACCOUNTABILITY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE!” the statement declared.
The statement was signed by Seidu Ayuba, Savannah Regional Secretary, on behalf of the Savannah Regional New Patriotic Party.
