Ghana Water Limited (GWL) on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, held an engagement meeting with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Assembly Members of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly as part of the third phase of stakeholder engagement for the Tamale–Damongo Water Supply Project. The meeting formed part of ongoing Community Engagement and Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) studies being undertaken ahead of the implementation of the project. The project team briefed the Assembly Members on the project, the RAP process and planned community-level engagements, while the Assembly also shared its perspectives and prepared for the next stage of consultations with communities along the project corridor.

Hon Iddrisu Castro reaffirmed the commitment of the John Mahama administration to deliver the Damongo-Tamale Water and said the Assembly will do everything possible to assist its execution.

The various Assembly Members expressed gratitude to the government of Ghana and leadership of the Ghana Water Limited- led by Adam Mutawakilu , for a good job done so far and expressed their willingness to support the project and facilitate effective community entry and participation. The community entry activities and direct engagement with residents, landowners, farmers, property owners, women’s groups, youth groups and other relevant stakeholders will be done this September and will provide affected persons with information about the project, create an avenue for concerns to be raised and assist the project team in identifying potential Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and collecting relevant information for the ongoing RAP studies.

The project will last just 24 months when started and will provide Water to various communities.

The third phase of stakeholder engagement is expected to cover communities and project corridors within Tamale, Damongo, Busunu, Yapei and other areas associated with the transmission and distribution networks.

The Ghana Water Limited team announced October 1, 2026, as the cut-off date for eligibility as PAPs and encouraged persons with interests in affected areas to make themselves available when the project team visits their communities and properties.

The Ghana government secured funding support from the European Union to undertake the Water project. An amount of 216 million Euros will be used to undertake the project.
