It was a lovely Friday morning as the birds perching on the mangoe trees of Yagbon JHS were singing with extra joy.
Many wondered why the sudden change of attitude from the lovely calm creatures. It was not long before the wondering minds got to know the reason behind the beautiful extra joy from the singing birds of Yagbon JHS, Damongo.
A team of about five (5), beaming with smiles on their faces together with them was one 19-year old female, Ayisha Yakubu, an early school leaver (dropout).
Ayisha’s life, her future and socio-economic activities that had gone dark at such age was being turned around by a Non-governmental organization (NGO) called WipeAway Foundation, a humanitarian support NGO based in Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region, led by the Executive Director, Habib Muftaw.
Acting on what was agreed between Ayisha, her family and WipeAway Foundation, the foundation on Friday July 30, 2021, procured and donated a sewing machine, and it’s associated logistics to Ayisha Yakubu and accompanied her to the vocational center at Abingakura, a suburb of Damongo, where Ayisha will start learning her trade (Dressmaking).
The plight of Ayisha Yakubu, 19, who is an early school leaver (dropout) at the basic level, was brought to the attention of the humanitarian organization by a media practioner.
The foundation, after listening to sad story engaged Ayisha and her immediate family on a life changing path, where both parties agreed to enroll her into vocational training to acquire a skill for a better future.
Beaming with smiles after receiving the philanthropic gesture, Ayisha thanked the organization for coming to her aid and assured that she will make good time with the machine and pay keen interest to the training to make life a better one for her and the family.
The leader of the Fashion Center Madam Jamila Abubakari pledged she will do whatever is humanly possible to guide Ayisha to the promised land.
Madam Jamila assured that she will take Ayisha through every facet of vocational training and admonished Ayisha to endeavor to take her new found life seriously.
The Executive Director of Wipe-Away Foundation, Mr. Habib Muftaw Borejinkpr, handing over the machine to the lady and her Madam said the decision to rescue Ayisha’s life was key to the agenda of improving the application of vocational skills amongst the less privileged in society.
Mufti as he is affectionately called appealed to Ayisha to attach seriousness the trade and not to relent in her effort to becoming a professional Dressmaker.
He advised Ayisha to respect and obey institutional rules in order to become an independent woman in future.
Mufti disclosed that the foundation will bear all her expenses including uniforms and daily upkeep till she successfully graduates from the training.
Wipe-Away Foundation is a non Governmental organization based Damongo in the Savannah Region of Ghana working to advance the health and socio-economic well-being of the less privileged in society.
