A Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Smith Mbakimbeh has expressed worry about the recent statements by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), about the Chief Justice.

According to him, the NDC’s request to the Chief Justice to withdraw the disciplinary petition against Dr Dominic Ayine was unfortunate.

Lawyer Mbakimbeh said the petition which was before the General Legal Council (GLC) must be dealt with legal processes devoid of political interference.

He said the GLC was responsible for the training, formation ,conduct and behaviour of lawyers saying that political parties should not mingle with matters of the council.

Lawyer Mbakimbeh disclosed this in an interview with Journalists here in Techiman, the Bono East Regional Capital.

“Article 21 of the 1992 constitution has enshrined the various fundamental human rights of residents and that these rights have limitations which should not be abused” he noted.

The legal practitioner said issues of the law must be addressed by lawyers adding that when political parties make worrying comments on matters of the GLC ,the judicial system of the country would be put into disrepute.

Lawyer Mbakimbeh was not happy about how every sensitive issue in the country was politicised saying that ” this is a threat to the democracy and development of the country”.

He advised that Dr Ayine who was a seasoned lawyer and a former Deputy Attorney General could defend himself before the GLC without any political interference.

Lawyer Mbakimbeh implored that the NDC could show solidarity with Dr Ayine in a cordial and harmless manner in order to bring sanity to the judicial service.

He admonished residents to allow the institutions which was established by the constitution to operate independently and said that “this is for the progress of the country “.

Lawyer Smith Mbakimbeh entreated residents to abreast themselves with the bye – laws and constitution of the country as a civic responsibility adding that “when you know the laws, you will not breach it”.
