The West Gonja municipality in the savannah region has recorded some 35 suspected cases of measles across 13 communities .
This was disclosed by the West Gonja Municipal health Director, Madam Gertrude Yentumi at the 2022 review meeting of the municipal health Directorate held on Thursday, 9th March, 2023 at Damongo.
She explained that out of the 35 suspected cases recorded, about 77% of the affected children were not vaccinated due to the shortage of some EPI vaccines which includes; OPV, MR , Rota PCV and Men A.
She further explained that the shortage of the vaccines has contributed to the low EPI coverage in the municipality.
According to her, the danger of the shortage is that, a lot of susceptible children will be in the communities presenting fertile grounds for re-emergence of communicable diseases.
She indicated that public sensitization and effective surveillance systems needs to be intensified to address the situation.
