A new chapter in healthcare governance in the Savannah Region began on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, as members of the Regional Health Committee were officially sworn into office at the Regional Minister’s office.
The ceremony was presided over by the Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Bii Awurbi, who charged the newly inaugurated committee to work closely with all stakeholders to drive meaningful development and improvements in the region’s health sector.

Hon. Awurbi assured the committee of his full support and emphasized his administration’s open-door policy, noting that collaboration would be key to achieving the President’s vision of improving healthcare delivery across the region.
Given the vast geographical size of the Savannah Region, the Minister expressed confidence that the experienced and dedicated members of the committee would be able to address the health challenges confronting communities.

During the ceremony, Dr. Awubadect, Secretary to the National Health Council, outlined the committee’s functions in accordance with Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act 525. He explained that the committee would play a vital advisory role to the Regional Health Director on health policies and strategies, oversee the implementation of health programmes, and coordinate activities among healthcare providers to strengthen the region’s health system.

The oath of office was administered by Professor Kwabena Amankwa Poku, who commended the Regional Minister for his continuous support for the growth of the health sector. He also praised the Savannah Region for appointing qualified individuals capable of delivering on the committee’s mandate.
Speaking after the swearing-in, the Chairman of the committee, Tolodompewura Abdallah Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and all stakeholders involved in the process. He assured that members of the committee—many of whom have previously contributed to the development of the health sector in the region—are committed to carrying out their duties diligently and ensuring accountability in their work.
The newly sworn-in committee is expected to play a key role in strengthening healthcare delivery and improving health outcomes across communities in the Savannah Region.
