Parents, guardians, and stakeholders in communities within the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region have lauded the Member of Parliament (MP) for Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, Lawyer Alhaji Mahama Shaibu (Lawyer Obei), for his continued support towards the educational needs of their children in the area.

As part of his annual educational support initiative, “Hon Obei’s Funded Dream Scholarship”, the MP presented educational materials and cash to support some Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the constituency.
The donation package included Scientific calculators, Mathematical sets, Mathematics, English, Science, Social tesxtbooks, and some amount of cash, aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and encouraging students to pursue higher education.
The presentation ceremony, held at Daboya, the district capital, on Saturday, 18th October, 2025, brought together education authorities, assembly members, parents, teachers, youth groups and students.
Parents, guardians, students and other stakeholders praised the MP for his generosity and unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of his constituents.

In his address, Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei underscored his belief that education remains the most powerful tool for community transformation, noting that his motivation is to ensure no child is left behind due to financial challenges in the coming years.
He said it is his fervent prayer that all BECE candidates in the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency will continue their education to Senior High and Tertiary levels and he is committed to supporting this vision to make sure it becomes a reality.
He disclosed that as part of efforts to improve falling standards of education, a stakeholder-forum will be held in November this year to brainstorm on possible ways to improve performances.
Lawyer Obei added that he is working closely with the North Gonja District Assembly to improve school infrastructure, furniture, and accommodation for teachers.
He emphasised that education remains a top priority on his development agenda, as it is key to nurturing future leaders, professionals, and innovators who can drive growth in the constituency.
The 2023 Ghana Statistical Service survey revealed that illiteracy rate in the North Gonja District is 71%. A feat the MP is not happy about and promised to commit more resources to education.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their studies as they transition to the next level of their academic journey.
Parents and guardians expressed deep gratitude for the MP’s intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. Many noted that the cost of preparing their children for Senior High School had been a major challenge especially, buying textbooks of core subjects for their wards.
“Lawyer Obei has truly shown leadership. At a time when buying books are financially tough, this support has come as a blessing. May God continue to bless him for remembering the needs of ordinary families,” one guardian, Mr Abu said.
Some of the BECE candidates also shared their excitement and pledged to make the MP and the constituency proud through their academic performance.
“We are so thankful for this help. It means a lot to us, and we will make sure to learn hard and achieve our dreams,” one of the beneficiaries expressed cheerfully during the ceremony.
