In a momentous gathering of unity and purpose on 22nd March, 2024, the Sori No.1 community came together to celebrate a remarkable collaboration aimed at localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within their rural enclave. Spearheaded by PAD FM and the Ghana Community Network (GCRN), the event marked a pivotal step towards a brighter, more sustainable future for all residents.
Kumaty Gorden addressed the program on behalf of the Station Coordinator, Matthew Zaabelle.
He articulated the significance of the occasion to the chiefs and people of the community and emphasized the collective commitment of the people to prioritize Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education and the construction of a Junior High School (JHS) block for the community. With a generous donation of two thousand Ghana cedis (GHC2000) from Peace And Development Radio (PAD), through GCRN, the community’s aspirations were given a tangible boost.
However, Kumaty Garden stressed the importance of stewardship and accountability in ensuring that the funds are utilized solely for their intended purpose.
Honorable Seidu Fuseini, the hon Assembly man for the Sori electoral area, expressed gratitude to PAD FM for their generous contribution and pledged to oversee the proper utilization of the donated funds. He urged community members to contribute to the cause, emphasizing the transformative impact of collective action.
Chief Gberika Dizuaya also thanked PAD FM and echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the community’s unwavering dedication to seeing the junior high school project to fruition. He implored residents to rally behind the initiative, whether through monetary donations or in-kind support, underscoring the profound impact it would have on future generations.
Community members are also calling for additional support from stakeholders, NGOs, politicians, and government entities to further bolster their efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and to ensure the successful completion of the junior high school project. They recognize that broader support and collaboration are essential for realizing their shared vision of sustainable development and improving the lives of future generations in Sori No.1.
Two community women leaders, Kenneta Lydia and Laar Konjit, brimming with excitement and determination, pledged their unwavering support for the project. They spoke passionately about the importance of education in shaping the lives of their children and grandchildren, vowing to uphold the principles of the SDGs in their everyday lives.
The youth of Sori No.1 represented by community youth task team (CYTT) leader Laar Kantam, expressed their enthusiasm for the project. Kantam emphasized their commitment to localizing the SDGs and utilizing them as a framework for community development. He envisioned a future where the completed junior high school would serve as a testament to the power of youth-driven change.
In a symbolic gesture of solidarity and shared purpose, the donation was presented to Chief DIzuaya, Honorable Seidu Fuseini, and Laar Kantam in the presence of the assembled community members. It was a moment imbued with hope and optimism, a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together in pursuit of a common goal.
As the gathering drew to a close, Kumaty Garden reiterated the importance of continued dedication to the SDGs. He affirmed PAD FM’s commitment to supporting the community every step of the way, underscoring the belief that sustainable development is not just a distant goal but a journey that begins at the grassroots level.
With hearts united and spirits lifted, the residents of Sori No. 1 departed, inspired by the vision of a future where education, empowerment, and progress reign supreme. In their hands lies the power to shape their destiny and create a legacy of resilience and prosperity for generations to come.
