By Abdulai Zulkaninu – 16th July, 2026.

The spirit of community volunteerism has been rekindled as community members massed up to support ongoing electrification project in Bombo.

The chiefs and people of Bombo in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region have demonstrated an high spirit of community volunteerism by joining hands to support the installation of electricity poles as the community prepares to receive electricity for the first time in its history.

The residents of the community voluntarily turned out in large numbers to dig holes for the poles, working alongside contractors to accelerate the extension of the national electricity grid to the community.

The remarkable communal effort reflects the determination of the people of Bombo to contribute to their own development. With a population of more than 700, the community has waited for many years to be connected to electricity, and the ongoing project has been welcomed with excitement and renewed hope.

Community members believe access to electricity will improve livelihoods, enhance education, stimulate economic activities, and improve healthcare delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Alhassan Issahaku expressed appreciation to the government for responding to the community’s long-standing appeal. He commended the Member of Parliament for Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Abdulai Nashiru, for their commitment to ensuring that Bombo is connected to the national grid.

“The community leadership and youth wish to commend Hon. Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei and Hon. Abdulai Nashiru for making this project a reality. We are grateful for their swift intervention to get our community connected to the national grid.
To speed up the work, we have resolved to support the contractor by voluntarily digging the holes for the electricity poles. We will continue to support every development initiative that will improve our community and help reduce poverty,” he stated.

The initiative has been widely praised as an example of how community participation can complement government development efforts. The unity and commitment displayed by the chiefs, youth, and residents of Bombo highlight the importance of collective responsibility in driving rural development. Their willingness to volunteer their labour not only reduces the burden on contractors but also demonstrates a strong sense of ownership of the project.

As work progresses, the people of Bombo remain optimistic that the long-awaited electricity project will soon become a reality, marking a historic milestone in the community’s development and opening new opportunities for social and economic transformation.

ALL HAIL THE VOLUNTEERING SPIRIT OF BOMBO COMMUNITY.
