A man believed to be in his 60s has died following an accident involving two motorbikes in Damongo.
The sad event occurred at about 7pm on Sunday, 18th June, 2023 around the Savannah regional coordinating council.
The old man who was on a Luojia “mapuka” motorbike with registration number M-15-NR 163 was hit from behind by two young boys who were on a speeding Aloba motorbike with registration number M-22-NR 5138.
Reports available to this source indicates the old man died few minutes after he was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
According to the reports, the old man bleed profusely at the accident scene loosing a lot of blood as a result of head injury before he was rushed to the St. Anne’s catholic hospital where he was later booked for referral to the Tamale teaching hospital having noticed that his condition was serious but he died in the process.
The Police in the Damongo District has since taken custody of the two motorbikes and has began investigations to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The deceased has been buried according to the customs and traditions of the islamic religion at Nabori, a suburb of Damongo where he hails from.
On 8th June, 2023, the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Musah Karim Kusubari at an Assembly sessional meeting lamented on the high rate of road accidents in the municipality especially motorbike crashes and pedestrian knock downs killing 3 persons including a pregnant woman in busunu and two in canteen and Damongo township in May alone and used the occasion to urged the general public and all stakeholders to give the National Road Safety Authority officials in the Municipality the maximum support and cooperation to enforce discipline and road traffic regulations on the roads, especially motorbike riders.
