Lawyer Alhaji Mahama Shaibu (Lawyer Obei), Member of Parliament for Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency is leading a host of duty bearers to host Education Stakeholders Conference in Daboya, capital of the North Gonja District in the Savannah region of Ghana.

Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei, MP, Daboya Mankarigu Constituency.

The conference is expected to bring together all available education stakeholders to address dwindling education standards in the North Gonja District.

Lawyer Mahama Shaibu (Lawyer Obei) disclosed this during his Annual “Dream Scholarship Awards” to deserving students for 2025 in Daboya on 18th October, 2025.
He called for massive turn out by all stakeholders and emphasized the need for collective effort, urging teachers, guardians, resources persons, religious and traditional authorities, sons and daughters of the area, and parents to come together to brainstorm on how to improve educational standards in the area.

The Education Stakeholders Conference will be held on 1st November, 2025, at the North Gonja District Assembly hall in Daboya.

This initiative is expected to also reflect a broader trend where education stakeholders are working to harmonize standards and address emerging challenges by fostering dialogue and cooperation to create a more effective and inclusive education system.

The 2023 Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) survey puts the North Gonja District in a bad light, with the district chalking 71% illiteracy rate.

The performances in Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) pass marks in recent years have been poor.

The percentage pass marks for the district in the last four years are detailed below.

In 2021 the district recorded (36.3%), 2022 (27.2%), 2023 (48.5%), and 2024 (17.7%) percentage pass marks respectively.

The official results for 2025 B.E.C.E have not been released to the districts by WAEC.
