The National road Safety Authority is calling on drivers and other road users in the Savannah region to kill their speed before Speed kills them.

The Authority made this call while sensitizing drivers and vulganizers in the region on speed limitations, tyre safety and other road safety regulation rules on Thursday, 11th November, 2021, in the Savannah regional capital, Damongo.

Abdul Samad

Addressing the drivers before the start of presentations, Mr Mohammed Abdul Samad who is the Regional Director for the National road Safety Authority in the Savannah region explained that, the safety of every single individual in the country is paramount to the National Road Safety Authority and that, authority believes in safety first before any other thing as such, there is the need for the drivers to exercise professionalism in their work.

Mr Mohammed Abdul Samad noted that, there are a lot of drivers out there who have not been to driving schools or any other institutions to acquire skills and knowledge in the profession but rather become driver mates and later acquired licenses to be drivers.

The regional director urged the drivers to respect all traffic regulations, know their vehicles and make sure they are road worthy, anticipate, concentrate, observe, tolerant and patience and show consideration to other road users such as pedestrians, motorist, and children when using the road.

He further explained that as drivers, they should be mindful of the fact that if anyone of them who is a bread winner of their families or professionals get involved in a road traffic crush, it turns to affect their families as they may become incapacitated.

He urged them to be mindful of the speed at which they travel and remember to drive at speed limitations as indicated at some parts of the roads in other to kill speed before speed kills them because ‘the speed that thrills is the one that kills’.

The drivers were also taken through some free eye screening for free to check on their sights during the sentization exercise.
