July 13, 2022.
Hope In Love Widows Foundation LBG has held yet another engagement with widows in the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah region on Wednesday, 12th July, 2022, Damongo.
The engagement was used to organize and elect group leaders to the various zonal widows groups in the municipality.
Each zonal group after electing their leaders is, expected to hold meetings at their zones to help reduce the difficulties the widows go through when attending meetings at a central point and to make contact or meetings easy with them.
Over eight (8) widow groups have been formed in the West Gonja municipality.
During the engagement, the leader of the foundation, Aboya Ramatu, revealed that the foundation’s major aim is to help uplift the socioeconomic conditions of widows in the area.
Aboya Ramatu is the immediate past women commissioner of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA).
She revealed that during her turn as the women commissioner for the Gonjaland Youth Association she, together with the team interacted with lots of women in the area and through the interactions, most of the women told the team a lot about the challenges they were faced with and are still battling with today.
“Some of the women we interacted with said they needed financial support in the form of loans to start trade, support to fund their childrens’ education and general women empowerment.
We supported some but couldn’t attend to all the challenges faced by the women in the Savannah region”.
So after I left office as the women commissioner, I saw the need to still support women in Gonjaland to help empower their socioeconomic lives.
In November 2021 the foundation came to Damongo and held successful meetings with these widows. Then in April 2022, another successful meeting was held.
During the meeting the widows revealed to the foundation what they need and how they should be assisted to care for their families.
So after the meetings we agreed with them that some will be trained in soap making, dress making, hair do, shower gel production, brown sugar production cake baking, among others.
To help achieved this across the Savannah region, Aboya Ramatu appealed to institutions, philanthropists, corporate Ghana, Members of Parliament, local assemblies, NGOs and other institutions to help Hope In Love Widows Foundation LBG to empower women in the region.
Hope In Love Widows Foundation LBG was founded on 4th October, 2021, to help improve the status of widows and women in the Savannah region and beyond
The foundation seeks to empower socioeconomic status of women to overcome some challenges in life.
