The Assemblyman for the Hangaline Electoral Area in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, Hon. Gorden Kumatey, popularly known as Flemzy, has facilitated a two-day pastry-making training programme for more than 50 young women in his electoral area.
The training, held from Sunday, September 20, to Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Savannah Bites & Brews Pub in Damongo, forms part of the second phase of an entrepreneurship and skills development programme being implemented in the electoral area.
The initiative seeks to equip young women with practical skills that can enable them to create sustainable livelihoods, establish small businesses and take advantage of emerging entrepreneurial opportunities.
According to Hon. Kumatey, the latest training focused on pastry production, including sausage rolls, chips, meat pies, cakes and other related products. It follows the first phase of the programme, which focused on grilling skills.
The initiative forms part of the Mastercard Foundation’s HAPPY Programme, a four-year project aimed at transforming the growing demand for soybean, rice, tomato and poultry products into employment and market opportunities for young people.
The broader programme seeks to equip 326,000 young people, particularly young women, with the skills and tools needed to access employment opportunities, while promoting the participation of young women and persons with diverse abilities in the agricultural sector.
Addressing participants during the training, Hon. Kumatey urged the beneficiaries to take the programme seriously and participate actively in all training sessions.
He noted that the skills acquired could provide an important foundation for entrepreneurship, self-reliance and economic empowerment.
Hon. Kumatey further emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship, describing it as a viable pathway to economic independence regardless of one’s profession. He encouraged the participants to approach the training with commitment, discipline and determination.
He also urged the beneficiaries to put their newly acquired skills into practice and explore opportunities to transform their knowledge into viable and sustainable businesses.
The training is expected to provide the participating young women with practical skills that can be applied to income-generating activities and contribute to improved livelihoods within the Hangaline Electoral Area.
