A Gonjaland youth group, ” Dankari be Lembu” has called on government to immediately formulate a transparent roadmap to finding a lasting solution to the recurrent Gonja – Mampurusi conflict over Lukula and Mempeasem communities.
The group “Dankare be Lembu”, is a vibrant youth group that advocates for peace and promotes Gonja Traditions in the savannah region.
In a statement on saturday, 3rd June, 2023, the group called on the Ministers of the Interior, defense and the IGP to call their men ( security personnel )to order with regards to the manner in which they handle the Gonja-Manpurusi civil unrest in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
According to the group, in such situation, it would be unfair for the police to arrest and brutalize one faction, especially at a location (Daboya) far away from the battlefield (Lukula and Mempeasem).
They also stated that, they have a couple of video tapes with Soonaba and one other Mampurusi chief threatening to fight Gonjas and capture Daboya, yet up to now, they have not seen a single investigation in relation to such threats, adding that if such a war eventually breaks out, who should be arrested first?.
The group also condemned in no uncertain terms any untoward actions by both factions and therefore implored the authorities mentioned above to as a matter of urgency release the arrested Daboya people for amicable resolution of the matter.
The group also made an appeal to the Vice President of the republic, H. E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia whom they described as a brother to call his people to order, especially during this critical time that it appears some of his people are abusing their closer relationship with him, in as much as they wished to call on their brothers at Daboya and it’s environs to cease fire.
The group reminded that, War doesn’t build but rather destroys and therefore regrets the unfortunate loss of precious lives and property in the situation.
The group made the appeals whilst addressing the media after a demonstration held at Damongo to demand for the removal from office the registrar of the Gonja Traditional Council over some allegations leveled against him by a section of the youth in Gonjaland.
