Damongo – The leadership of the Gonjaland Youth Association has paid a visit to the family of late Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna Sandapewura to mourn with family after the August 6, 2025 helicopter disaster which claimed the lives of eight prominent lives in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

President Alhassan Baba Darison commended the government of Ghana for commencing investigations into the accident and said the association fully supports the investigations because it will reveal the true cause of the accident and also prevent future occurrences.

“Before we can actually accept the loss we must know the actual cause of the accident, that’s what can bring things to completion. As Muslims we are aware that God give and takes but we are humans and support any full scale investigations into the accident to unravel the truth and prevent future occurrences.
We are encouraging government to conduct thorough investigations and come out with the cause of this accident before we can accept what happened.

I want to also encourage the government to put in more energy into the investigations as it did in identifying the bodies. This will bring peace to the families and bring corrections into the system so that such things will be limited and may not happen again in future”

Alhassan Baba Darison expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who have demonstrated a high level of professionalism into the accident and called on them to continue to do the job as expected to unravel the real cause of the accident.

The association also supported the family with some assorted drinks.

Chief Kasapewura Seidu, a sub chief of the Damongo traditional area and head of the family said the death of Alhaji Sandapewura Muniru Mohammed Limuna is shocking, devastating, and big loss to the family and Gonjaland.

Alhaji Muniru’s death happened prior to his 58th birthday (8th August 2025) and it’s something the family finds tough to come to terms with, he lamented.

Our only consolation is in the hands of Almighty God, he consoled family members.

Chief Kasapewura Seidu described late Alhaji Muniru Mohammed as a man of peace and a unifier. And noted that regardless of the political divide one comes from, Alhaji Muniru assisted people, solved problems, and empowered a lot of people within and outside the family.

Alhaji Muniru saw the burden of a family member as his own burden, he added.

Four (4) of the deceased were strongly connected with Gonjaland; the minister of the Environment, Science, and Technology and Tamale Central MP Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed ( mother from Daboya in the North Gonja district of Savannah region), Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna (from Damongo), Deputy NADMO Director-General Samuel Aboagye (born in Damongo to the Nana Aboagye family), and Squadron Leader Peter Anala (completed St. Anne’s basic school in Damongo)

The eight persons who lost their lives in the helicopter crash are expected to be laid to rest at the Military cemetery in Accra.
