As part of the buildup to the 2025 African Union Anti-Corruption Day (AUACD), the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), in collaboration with the Local Accountability Network (LANeT) Damongo, has extended its anti-corruption sensitization drive to students of Jelinkon Junior High School (JHS) and St. Cyprian Minor Seminary Senior High School in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

The sensitization sessions, coordinated locally by Northcode Ghana, a LANeT partner organization, aimed at instilling anti-corruption values in the youth by educating them on the detrimental impact of bribery, fraud, and other forms of corruption on national development. Students were also encouraged to embrace whistleblowing and understand their critical role in promoting transparency and accountability within their communities.

This year’s AU Anti-Corruption Day is themed: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” GACC is aligning this theme with Ghana’s national anti-corruption agenda by empowering young people with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, resist, and report corrupt practices.

The sessions were interactive and student-focused, highlighting how integrity and civic responsibility are foundational in building a corruption-free future. According to organizers, engaging the youth is key to cultivating a new generation of leaders committed to ethical governance and social justice.
GACC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening anti-corruption advocacy at the grassroots by fostering partnerships with local stakeholders and civil society actors. The Coalition encouraged the participating students to become ambassadors for integrity and accountability in their schools and beyond.

The event is part of a broader initiative involving 19 Local Accountability Networks (LANeTs) across the country in the lead-up to AUACD 2025. The activities are supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, with a focus on civic education and youth engagement as tools to promote good governance and transparency in Ghana.
