A new chapter in the development of Gonjaland begins on Friday October 24 as the first batch of Bii-Kunuto Scholarship beneficiaries departs Ghana for medical studies in China.
The pioneering group which includes; Mahama Jewu Kamal-Deen, Khalid Ebu-yer Najuah, and Basiru Ekonatu Khadija paid a courtesy visit to the Jakpa Palace on Monday, 20th October, 2025 to express their deep gratitude to the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, whose vision and generosity made this life-changing opportunity possible.

During the visit, the scholars received words of encouragement, blessings, and wise counsel from traditional leaders, including chiefs and queen mothers. The message was clear: stay disciplined, focused, and committed, for their success holds the potential to bring pride and development to Gonjaland.
To reinforce their dedication, the students signed an undertaking to return and serve in their homeland after completing their studies which is a core principle of the Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Fund, which seeks to build local human capacity for sustainable development.

Speaking on behalf of the trio, Mahama Jewu Kamal-Deen conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the King:
“We are truly grateful to His Majesty Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I for this golden opportunity. We promise not to disappoint. We will work hard and return to serve our people with dignity.”
The Yagbonwura, in his response, encouraged the scholars to become worthy ambassadors of Gonjaland and to use their education for the upliftment of their communities.

The Scholarship Fund’s Coordinator, Mr. Habib Mufty Borerijnkpr, hailed the moment as “just the tip of the iceberg.” He revealed that two more students are set to leave for the United Kingdom next year under the same initiative.
This first batch marks the launch of a transformative vision to equip Gonjaland’s brightest with world-class education starting with healthcare and to ultimately build a self-sustaining future rooted in knowledge, service, and cultural pride.
