Traders at the Damongo daily market has expressed their displeasure over the West Gonja municipal Assemblies decision to relocate them to a newly built market at Canteen, a suburb of Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region.
According to the market women, the decision by the Municipal Assembly to relocate them to a new site outside the township of Damongo does not conform with the tradition of market settlement.
Some of the traders disclosed this to padfm’s morning show team who visited the market on Wednesday, 7th September, 2022 to interact with them on the new development.
The further explained that, the norms and traditions guiding market settlement does not permit that a market be moved outside it’s original township adding that, the cost of transporting their market stuffs to the canteen market will also be too exorbitant for them to bear and will as well affect them economically hence, the need for the Assembly to reconsider their decision.
The traders insisted, they will prefer to manage at the daily market until such a time that the reconstruction work on the Saturday market is completed .
According to them, they have met with their leadership to meet again with the Municipal Assembly on Friday, 9th September, 2022 to hold further discussions with the Assembly and if possible, reconsider their earlier decision of moving them to the canteen market.
They said, there is enough space at the daily market to accommodate them or better still, they can use the Kurabaso School park in the interim .
