Trodompewura, Chief Abdullah Ahmed Monor, has called on traditional authorities and relevant stakeholders within the Damongo Traditional Area to prioritise the construction of permanent palaces to preserve the history, culture and traditions of the various traditional areas.
He made the call on Friday, 18th September, 2026, when he chaired the climax of the Damongowura’s 2026 Damba Festival celebration, held at the Damongowura’s new palace in Damongo.
The celebration brought together sub-chiefs within the Damongo Traditional Area, invited guests and other stakeholders, including the Paramount Chief of the Mankpan Traditional Area, H. E. Mankpanwura Alhaji Jakpa Achorde I, reps of the Buipewura and the Municipal Chief Executive for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly.
According to the Trodompewura, a palace should not be regarded merely as a physical structure but as an important institution for preserving traditional knowledge and ensuring that the customs and heritage of the people are passed on from one generation to another.
He therefore urged chiefs and other relevant stakeholders to explore sustainable funding sources to facilitate the construction of permanent palaces for their respective traditional areas.
Chief Monor also appealed to the paramount chiefs, including the Jira Damongowura, to develop an organogram or clearly labelled diagram at traditional palaces to indicate the designated positions and areas of responsibility of chiefs, queen mothers and other traditional office holders.
He explained that such a system would help visitors and members of the traditional councils understand the roles and positions of various office holders without having to rely solely on information from individuals present at the palace.
He said clearly documenting and displaying the structure of traditional authority could also help minimise misunderstandings and conflicts over roles and positions.
Trodompewura Ahmed Monor further raised concerns about what he described as the abusive use of TikTok and other social media platforms by some young people to insult and attack traditional leaders.
He appealed to TikTok users to exercise restraint and respect for traditional authorities, stressing that having a large social media following should not be seen as a licence to insult or denigrate others.
He called on the Jira Damomgowura and other chiefs to engage relevant stakeholders to find ways of addressing the issue and promoting responsible use of social media among young people.
He also commended Jira Damongowura Bii – kunuto for establishing an education fund and appealed to the West Gonja Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders with the capacity to support the initiative to do so.
He disclosed that 105 tertiary students had received various forms of assistance through the education support initiative that same Friday morning.
He called on stakeholders to continue supporting the fund to enable it to expand its impact and provide sustained assistance to students in need.
Chief Monor concluded by expressing optimism that stronger collaboration among traditional authorities, the assembly and other stakeholders would contribute to the development and preservation of the Damongo Traditional Area.
