The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, His Excellency, Most Rev. Julien Kabore, led the Catholic faithful in a spirit – filled celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday of the liturgical year in the Martyrs of Uganda parish, Bole. The event, which coincided with the Diocese’s annual youth jamboree, brought together young Catholics from various corners of the diocese. The theme for the celebration was “Those who hope in the Lord will run and not be weary” (Isaiah 40:31).

H.E Kabore

Addressing the congregation, the Nuncio expressed gratitude to the young people for their enthusiasm and the unity they exhibited during the gathering. He also thanked them for their warm welcome, acknowledging the efforts of the parish in organizing the celebration. The Nuncio emphasized the significance of the Solemnity of Christ the King, a feast instituted nearly a century ago in 1925 by Pope Pius XI through the encyclical Quas Primas. He highlighted the historical context of the celebration, explaining how it was introduced to remind Christians of Christ’s reign and to strengthen their faith, charity, and commitment to God.

This celebration came just days after Bishop Angkyier hosted the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, His Excellency, Most Rev. Julien Kabore, during his five-day first pastoral visit to the Catholic diocese of Damongo. The Nuncio’s presence further strengthened the unity and faith of the Diocese, marking a significant moment of spiritual renewal and encouragement for the Catholic faithful.

The Apostolic Nuncio, explained that the feast of Christ the King is a call to reflect on three central aspects of Christ’s kingship: his victory over evil, his triumph over the world, and his role in setting humanity free from sin. He reminded the congregation that Jesus Christ reigns as King by delivering humanity from evil, as demonstrated through his ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Drawing from scripture. He also urged youth to remember that Christ’s kingdom is not of this world but one that opposes the forces of darkness, bringing salvation and hope to believers.

The Nuncio also underscored the liberating nature of Christ’s kingship. He noted that Jesus leads by example, embodying humility and service rather than earthly power. Unlike worldly rulers, Christ’s authority stems from truth and love, which free believers from sin and the trappings of materialism. He said “Jesus does not dominate but serves; he is a King for others,”. He continued by calling on the youth to emulate Christ by pursuing lives of service, truth, and integrity.

The Nuncio led the congregation in prayer, emphasizing the need for unity, reconciliation, and commitment to a life of holiness. His message sunk deeply in the hearts of the youth and the parishioners, leaving them inspired to uphold the values of truth, faith, and service as they continue their spiritual journey under the kingship of Christ.

Most Rev. Peter Paul Yelezoume Angkyier, Bishop of the diocese in his term to announce the next host parish for next year’s Christ the King Feast for the youth jamboree, cautioned the youth and the parishioners, against spiritual worldliness, urging the faithful to avoid the temptation of seeking applause or personal glory at the expense of their Christian commitment. He stressed the importance of sincerity in faith, said, “When Jesus reigns in the heart, he frees it from hypocrisy, duplicity, and fear.” He called on the youth to remain steadfast in their allegiance to Christ, embracing the freedom and dignity that come from living under his kingship.

The liturgical celebration was marked by vibrant expressions of faith and cultural performances, reflecting the deep spirituality and enthusiasm of the Catholic youth of Diocese. The annual youth gathering and celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King not only showcased the vibrant faith of the Diocese but also reinforced the critical role of young people in advancing the mission of the Church.

During this celebration also the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency, Most Rev Julien Kabore conferred on twenty – nine candidates of the Martyrs of Ugandan parish, Bole the Sacrament of confirmation.
