The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Abu Jinapor, on 8th August, joined the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to commission the Royal Ghana Gold Refinery at the Diamond House in Accra.
This state-of-the-art gold refinery, constructed through a Public Private Partnership between the Government and Rosy Royal Minerals Limited, marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s quest to add value to its mineral resources.
The refinery has a daily capacity of 400kg of gold and can produce refined gold at 24 carats, 99.99% purity. This initiative is part of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government’s efforts to ensure optimal benefit from Ghana’s mineral resources. This was disclosed on the official facebook page of the Minister.
Hon. Abu Jinapor, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, emphasized the government’s commitment to value addition and beneficiation in the mining sector. “After centuries of mining, we have resolved to move away from the ‘dig and ship’ approach and promote indigenisation and value addition for the benefit of the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
The Minister highlighted other initiatives underway, including the implementation of the Green Mineral Policy, which requires companies to build refinery solutions for minerals like lithium and bauxite.
He also mentioned the upcoming construction of a $450 million manganese refinery at Nsuta in the Western Region.
The commissioning of the Royal Ghana Gold Refinery demonstrates the government’s dedication to making Ghana the leading producer of gold in Africa and promoting value addition and beneficiation in the country.
