A Rocha Ghana has also earmarked to plant more trees at Mognori, Soalepe and Achubunyor in the west Gonja Municipality as well as Yazori and Kpulumbo in the north Gonja District in the coming weeks. 150ha of degraded lands would be restored with 100,000 trees as part of their ongoing Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) project in collaboration with GIZ. 150 ha of community woodlots would also be established.
A project officer with A ROCHA GHANA, Isaac Ntori who took the communities through the right pegging processes, indicated that the Green Ghana Campaign couldn’t have taken place anytime better than now. As a country we are fast losing our vegetation cover through destructive activities such as illegal mining, logging, excessive charcoal production among others. It is therefore critical to plant and nurture trees to rehabilitate the degraded woodlands. The trees when matured will help to conserve biodiversity and also mitigate climate change impacts.
The government of Ghana initiated the Green Ghana Project to plant more trees to help protect the environment.
The day was marked on 11th June, 2021.
