Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of Ghana and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Presidential candidate, has concluded his campaign tour of the Savannah Region with a pledge to enhance the lives of Ghanaians if elected.
Addressing party supporters in Tuna in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, Dr. Bawumia expressed his commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
His visit was part of a broader constituency-based campaign aimed at strengthening policy discussions and understanding at the grassroots level.
During interactions with chiefs and residents in the Savannah region, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his dedication to amending Section 63[D] of the Chieftaincy Act. This amendment according to him, aims to restore greater adjudicatory powers to traditional authorities, thereby enhancing the justice delivery system.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the NPP’s longstanding commitment to the development of Gonjaland, emphasizing that the party’s actions and policies have consistently prioritized the region. He underscored his contributions, along with President Akufo-Addo, in establishing the Savannah Region, which has laid the groundwork for significant infrastructural and human resource development.
As part of his vision for the region, Dr. Bawumia outlined several key initiatives which included:
- Training one million youth in ICT skills to capitalize on the emerging fifth industrial revolution.
- Implementing a robust agricultural policy to position the Savannah Region as a food hub for Ghana and West Africa.
- Establishing a university with programs tailored to the region’s specific needs.
- Enhancing security and peace-building efforts to foster coexistence and national progress.
- Improving the region’s road network, including the Bunjai-Yapei road, Daboya-Mankarigu road, and various township roads.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia announced that a contract has been awarded for the rehabilitation of the Sunyani-Techiman-Bole-Wa road, with work set to commence soon.
Dr. Bawumia’s tour and pledges have bolstered his campaign, offering a vision of development and progress for the Savannah Region and beyond.
