A teacher at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High/ Technical School( NDESCO) in Damongo in the Savannah region, Mr. Bala Chana Joshua has been praised for exhibiting some Sense of patriotism by watering and caring for some planted trees in the school planted under the Ministry of Lands and Natural resources green Ghana initiative.
Mr. Bala is said to be procuring water voluntarily to water the trees every evening and morning just to ensure the survival of the trees.
Kindly read below to know more about what Mr. Bala Chana Joshua does at Ndesco on daily basis.
PATRIOTISM AT ITS PEAK.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources launched and operationalized the GREEN GHANA DAY in 2021, an initiative that is geared among other things to inculcate into the minds of Ghanaians, the need to restore our degraded landscape and beautify our communities and environment by planting and taking care of trees.
This initiative which is in its second year has seen the planting of over 20 million seedlings of different species of trees. The seedlings are always distributed to government departments, agencies, commissions, private individuals, and schools.
Admittedly, one factor working against the success story of this well-calculated initiative of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is the lack of care and attention are given to seedlings planted especially in the dry season, and as a result, the rate of survival is very low.
However, the story in Ndewura Jakpa Senior High/ Technical School( NDESCO) in Damongo in the Savannah region is different because of the ingenuity of one of the teachers in the school, Mr. Bala Chana Joshua who voluntarily procures water and waters the trees every evening and morning.
Take a trip to the school and you will see him personally moving from one seedling to another pouring water on them. When the school is on vacation, this teacher refuses to go to his hometown Chiana in the Upper East region and stays back to protect the trees from the vagaries of the weather and being destroyed by animals and children.
He periodically cut sticks to re-fence the trees to prevent them from being destroyed by animals.
I can say with confidence that the seedlings in this school are gaining roots and the survival rate is over 80% all because of Mr. Bala Chana Joshua.
Thumbs up to you Mr. Bala Chana Joshua for this act of patriotism. You are indeed a responsible citizen of Ghana and Ghana would have been a better place if all Ghanaians displayed this sort of attitude in all endeavors.
