The savannah Regional health Directorate led by the Regional Director for health services, Dr. Chrysantus Kubio, has presented some 800 pieces of Long Lasting Insecticide treated nets (LLIN) otherwise known as mosquito nets to security service agencies operating in the region.
Before Presenting the mosquito nets to the security agencies at the Regional health Directorate on Friday, 23rd September, 2022, Dr. Chrysantus Kubio explained that, the regional health directorate has implemented so many interventions to address the problems of Malaria, one of which is the use of the long lasting insecticide treated nets.
He added that, some time past, the regional health directorate carried out some household registrations to get members of those households registered for the distribution of nets to those households in other to help prevent the incidence of Malaria in the region.
Dr. Chrysantus disclosed that, aside the distribution of nets to the registered households, the directorate has also distributed nets to pregnant women who visit health facilities at registration, explaining that the idea of giving out the nets to the pregnant women is because not all individuals were given nets during the household registrations.
He continued that, because it is appropriate for everyone to have a net, there has been a continuous distribution ongoing through antenatal care services and another opportunity when a child is born and being given missiles rebeller vaccines at the age of 18 months where another net is again given and also at schools just to ensure that everyone eventually gets a net in a household.
He noted that, though the distribution of the long lasting insecticide nets do not cover institutions, there has been a special situation after the household registrations and distributions where the security services met with them to indicate how the are exposed to Mosquito bites during their night duties.
He indicated that, because the do not want the security personnels to fall sick, the directorate in collaboration with the National Malaria control programme through the request put in by the officers, the have received 800 pieces of the nets for the personnels to help reduce the incidence of Malaria in their environment.
He thanked the security services for their continuous support to the directorate and hopes that, the gesture further strengthens their collaborations as far as health care delivery is concern in the Savannah region.
He aslo expressed his gratitude to the Malaria control programme and the Director general of the Ghana health service for supporting them to be able to donate the nets to the security services.
Receiving the nets on behalf of the security services and their service commanders, the deputy regional police commander, DCOP Kumi Faakye expressed their gratitude to the Ghana health service, the savannah regional health directorate and the Malaria control programme for extending part of their services to them by providing for the security services in the region with mosquito nets.
He said, the nets will get them fully protected from sickness or being attacked by Malaria when at their duty post at night and assured the Ghana health service of their continuous support to them in their service delivery saying, their doors are widely opened and ready to assist them as and when the need their services.
