The Hon. MCE for West Gonja municipal assembly Mr. Musah Karimu Kusubari has on Monday 13th December, 2021, led a team of water experts from the Ghana Water company Ltd together with the proposed constructor of the project to Broto in the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah Region to inspect the site for the broto water project and also to access the water facility that is expected to supply water to Damongo township.
Hon. Musah explained that while waiting for the main Damongo Water project to commence, it is prudent to put in some temporal measures to address the water crisis situation in Damongo with a small water system which will be tapped from Broto.
The MCE further explained that, he visited the office of the Managing Director of the Ghana water company, Ing Dr. Clifford Braimah some few months ago to discuss with him on the way forward in addressing the perennial water crisis of the municipality where they arrived at putting up a small water system on the interim at Broto which can supply half of the population of Damongo.
The Regional Director for the Ghana water company, Mr. Amidu Musah explained that the test carried out from the borehole facility can discharge 21metres cube per hour which is enough to serve half of the demands of the people of Damongo.
Mr Musah added that the initial challenge with the water was that, it had some bad odour and contained high fluoride content of which the contractor to the project together with the chief Manager in charge of special duties at the head office of the Ghana water company are experts in treating such water have come to have a look at the situation and have taken samples of the water for testing so that they can help allleviate the suffering of the people of Damongo in getting portable water.
The Regional Director further explained that the water when completed, will be tapped into the overhead tank in town from which pipes will be layed for the residents to connect to their homes.
Dr. Daniel A. Ankrah of Danank Engineering company ltd who is the contractor to the project explained that, all documents relating to the project will be presented to the Ghana water company as soon as possible for work to begin on the project.
Dr. Ankrah has also assured that all other works by his firm will be haulted to enable them complete work on time due to the agency of the Broto water project which an interim measure to the Damongo water crisis.
The Broto borehole to be tapped from has seen an overflow of water for the past 15 years and when completed, will have a treatment plant at the water site and a tap to supply the Broto community and also tap into the reservoir to supply the Damongo township by extending pipe lines through a distance of 10 kilometres.
