The West Gonja Hospital (Damongo District Hospital) in the Savannah region has been awarded by the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) as the ‘Best District Hospital’ in the Savannah region for the Hospital’s Contribution towards Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMTCT) of HIV in 2020″.
Dr. Wadeyir J. Abesig (Medical Director) and Mr. Frank Ameyaw Korsah (Health Service Administrator), received the award on behalf of the hospital in Accra.
The leading hospital in West Gonja municipality of the Savannah region was awarded due to it’s excellent health care delivery.
The award, according to the Ghana AIDS Commission, is “In honour of your committed service and performance as an outstanding Sub-regional facility in the Savannah region, towards elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in 2020”.
The program was held at the Ghana International Trade Fair Forecourt, La – Accra, on 1st December, 2021.
Ghana adopted the Global theme for this year’s World AIDS Day (WAD) “End Inequalities, End AIDS, End pandemics”, that reminds us of the urgent need to tackle underlying social injustices that hamper the goal of ending AIDS by 2030. It is envisaged that tackling inequalities will advance the human rights of all vulnerable populations and persons living with HIV, make societies better prepared to manage Covid-19 and other pandemics and support economic recovery and stability.
As part of the National commemoration activities for the 2021 World AIDS Day celebrations, the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) and partners have instituted an Award Scheme to motivate and encourage excellence towards national targets.
