(Damongo) – The Ghana Monitoring and Evaluation Forum (GMEF) has held it’s maiden Stakeholders forum at Damongo in the Savannah regional capital on Wednesday, 13th October, 2021, under the theme: “Using monitoring and evaluation to promote national development”.
The country coordinator for GMEF, Mrs Dede Bedu-Addo in an address explained that the Ghana Monitoring and Evaluation Forum (GMEF) is Ghana’s only formal Voluntary Organization for Professional Evaluators (VOPE) who undertakes capacity building and advocacy on Monitoring & Evaluation through the organization of evaluation events such as conferences, workshops and forums to promote evidence-based policy making at all levels in Ghana.
Mrs Dede further explained that GMEF has since it’s establishment in 2008, grown to become a network of over 470 public-spirited individuals who seek to meet the need for improved M&E through the promotion of open dialogue around Monitoring & Evaluation issues with a view of positively influencing the development opportunities of our time with new insights, perspectives and tools with the mission to promote and enable the use of monitoring and evaluation in programme implementation and policy planning with evidence based decision making which plays an increasingly critical role in shaping our society and the way it develops, especially with the way we use our limited resources.
Mrs Dede emphasized that in other to help promote the development of a good Ghanaian society, it will be useful to establish a National Monitoring & Evaluation Network to promote the cause of evidenced based decision making which is to be achieved by creating a network of public spirited individuals whom through open dialogue, can discuss M&E issues with a view to influencing some objectives such as Share Professional M&E Insights, Promote the benefits of evidence based decision making especially in public policy decision making, engage relevant stakeholders to provide M&E views in an unbiased manner among others with our Stakeholders groups being Policy Makers, Public & Private Practitioners, Research Institutions, Public Institutions, Development Agencies, CSO’s & NGO’s and the Media.
Mrs Dede Bedu-Addo added that the key objective of GMEF is to establish a forum where M&E ideas can be shared between like minded people in an informed manner.
The forum was organised by GMEF and was facilitated by Mr. Samson A. Akanpigbiam. He took participants through Monitoring & Evaluation, Accountability, Learning and Research Professional and
Mr. Issah Aminu Danaa from the University of Ghana Learning Centre, Tamale who also spoke on M&E in COVID-19 times.
The forum was coordinated by Mr. Dimongso Kafari Matthew who is the coordinator for GMEF in the Savannah region and Director for SAFE GENERATIONS, an NGO whose vision is focused at creating awareness on climate change and it’s effects/impacts to the environment and society.
