Earlier on Tuesday August 25, 2021, the Savannah regional minister organized a stakeholder forum with headmasters/headmistress, district education directors, regional education service officers, teachers and other opinion leaders . The forum was organized to find out the major reasons for the downward trending of education at all levels in the Savannah region.
At the RCC maiden meeting on Thursday August 26, 2021, the minister appealed to all technocrats to put up their best to help the growth and development of the region.
“As a new entity, the RCC members have been charged with great responsibilities of maintaining one cohesive geographical and social unit, to promote development and to lead the people to escape from poverty.
The objective of the RCC is to seek the development and progress of the region as whole. We have to relegate to the background our individual and sectional interests each time we meet as RCC.
I want to appeal to the heads of departments to see themselves as members of the RCC although they are ex-officio members. As technocrats, you should bring expertise to bear on the work of the RCC by making positive contributions that will inure to the benefit of the people as required by section 179 of Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936)”.
Muhazu Jibril advised all heads of departments to take their work seriously and do well to submit departmental reports on time to avoid delays in the submission of regional conference report by the RCC to the office of the President.
The year has been a difficult one with most of the MDAs and departments struggling to finance their activities, projects and programmes but let me assure you that the government will sure funds are released to you to enable you carry out your mandate, he added.
Security
The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in collaboration with the traditional leaders are working around the clock to resolve the few security issues within the region, including the Lukula chieftaincy issue in the North Gonja district which a joint meeting with the North East RCC has been scheduled for 1st September, 2021.
Other security matters which include highway robberies and chieftaincy disputes are being tackled, couple with the increased police patrols on the roads to help keep peace.
The cordial relationship between REGSEC and the committee of Eminent Chiefs of the Gonja Traditional Council, has resulted in resolving several chieftaincy disputes in the region.
The region’s security has been enhanced with the establishment of the 155 Amoured Regiment in Damongo. The DISECs, MUSECs and REGSEC will soon find lasting solutions to all lingering security issues across the region.
Other areas such as provision of office and residential accommodation, road infrastructure, construction of office with conference room for the Regional House of Chiefs, health, water and sanitation, education, agriculture among others were touched on by the minister.
