A group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region has called on the party’s national leadership to remove or suspend some members of the Regional Elections Committee, citing concerns over alleged bias and the credibility of the party’s internal electoral process.

At a press briefing read by the Regional communication officer, Mr Frederick Tahiru in Damongo on Wednesday, 12th August, 2026, Mr. Tahiru called on the National Executive Committee, National Steering Committee and regional leadership to take immediate action to restore confidence in the ongoing elections for Regional Executives.

The group specifically called for Dr. Abudu Musah to voluntarily recuse himself from the Savannah Regional Elections Committee and for Mr. Ayatolai Seidu, popularly known as “Mourinho,” to be suspended pending an independent disciplinary inquiry into his conduct.

Mr. Seidu serves on the committee by virtue of his position as Savannah Regional Research and Elections Officer.

According to the group, the conduct of some members of the committee has created a perception of partiality and risks undermining the credibility of the internal electoral process.

The concerns have also been linked to the disqualification and subsequent reinstatement of two aspirants: Mohammed Adam Mansuur, who is contesting the Regional Youth Organiser position, and Umar Alfa, an aspirant for Regional Nasara Coordinator.

The group said Mr. Mansuru’s disqualification was overturned by the National Steering Committee, while Mr. Alfa was reinstated by the Regional Appeals Committee.

It argued that the decisions raised questions about the basis for their initial disqualifications.

The group further alleged that Mr. Seidu’s public conduct, including social media posts celebrating decisions of the Elections Committee, had created a reasonable perception of bias.

It maintained that officials overseeing an internal electoral process must demonstrate neutrality, confidentiality and professionalism to maintain the confidence of delegates and party members.

The group also raised concerns about the involvement of a member of the Regional Appeals Committee in a matter before the committee, alleging that the individual had acted as legal adviser to an aggrieved party.

It further alleged that the committee member had made comments concerning financial support allegedly received from the incumbent Regional Chairman.

The group questioned whether an individual could simultaneously act as an adjudicator and legal adviser in the same dispute, arguing that such circumstances could undermine confidence in the appeals process.

The group said the concerns were particularly significant in relation to the case involving Mr. Adam Mohammed Mansuru.

Beyond the Elections Committee, the group also appealed to members of the Savannah Regional Council of Elders and Regional Patrons to uphold their constitutional responsibilities and remain neutral throughout the electoral process.

It alleged that some members of these bodies had openly aligned themselves with particular candidates, a development it said could weaken confidence in the institutions established to promote fairness and unity within the party.

The group noted that the NPP had undertaken constitutional reforms and developed a roadmap for its internal elections ahead of the 2028 general elections.

It argued that the credibility of the party’s internal democratic processes would be critical to maintaining unity and strengthening the party ahead of the national elections.

The group therefore urged the party’s national leadership to act swiftly to address the concerns and ensure that the Savannah Regional elections are conducted in a transparent, impartial and credible manner.

“Our appeal is not motivated by personal animosity towards any individual,” the group said, stressing that its concerns were aimed at protecting the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes.

The statement was signed by Fredrick Abukari Tahiru.

The allegations and calls for disciplinary action contained in the briefing represent the position of the group and have not, in the material provided, been independently established. The affected individuals and party authorities were not quoted responding to the allegations.
